A Guide to Your Daily Skincare Routine

To ensure optimal care for your skin, it’s essential to follow consistent morning and evening routines. This habit is vital for maintaining the health and radiance of your skin.

Step 1: Cleansing

The initial phase of every skincare regimen involves cleansing, also referred to as washing. This step is crucial for eliminating excess oil, dirt, and impurities from your skin. Cleansing not only clears your pores but also primes your skin to better absorb subsequent skincare products.

  • Wet your face with lukewarm water.
  • Apply a generous amount of your gentle face wash, gently using your fingertips to distribute it.
  • Cleanse for approximately 20-30 seconds.
  • Pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Step 2: Toner

The second step of your skincare routine is the application of a toner. Toners play an essential  role in balancing your skin’s pH level, providing hydration, eliminating residual oil and dirt, and further unclogging your pores.5

  • Soak a cotton pad with toner.
  • Gently pat your face using the saturated cotton pad, or alternatively, apply the toner by dabbing it onto the skin using your fingertips.

Step 3: Antioxidant Serum

Incorporating an antioxidant serum into your morning skincare routine is the third step. These serums act as protective shields against free radicals and environmental damage while simultaneously improving your skin’s texture and tone.

  • Dispense a small amount of the antioxidant serum onto your fingertips or face, avoiding contact with the dropper.
  • Gently spread the serum across your face, focusing on areas prone to sun exposure or environmental damage.
  • Gently pat into skin using your fingertips to aid absorption; avoid rubbing, as this can minimize the serum’s efficacy.
  • Extend the application to your neck and décolletage.

Step 4 (Optional): Spot/Acne/Blemish Treatment

For those dealing with acne, blemishes, or hyperpigmentation, you may consider applying a spot or blemish treatment tailored to your specific skin concern like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid. Please note, this step is optional and should be skipped if you do not have any of these concerns.

  • Gently remove any  existing skincare products on the spot using a damp cotton swab.
  • Apply a small amount of the treatment directly to the affected area.
  • Allow the treatment to dry completely.

Step 5: Eye Cream (Optional)

Eye creams can provide added moisture, brightness, smoothing, and hydration to the delicate under-eye area, addressing concerns such as aging, fine lines, puffiness, and darkness.

Dab a small amount onto the eye area using your ring finger.

Step 6: Moisturize

Moisturizing is an essential step in your routine. A good moisturizer soothes and softens the skin, keeping it protected and hydrated throughout the day.

Apply moisturizer with clean hands, especially if you’re using it from a jar that requires dipping your fingers into.

Step 7: Apply Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a critical final step in your morning skincare routine. Not only does it lower your risk of skin cancer, but it also reduces signs of aging such as wrinkles and sunspots by blocking damaging UV rays. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 50 or higher to protect against both UVA and UVB light, especially in countries with humid weather.

Apply about a nickel-sized amount onto your face, neck, chest, and ears. Massage it in and make sure to apply it 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Remember to reapply every 2 hours.

NIGHT TIME ROUTINE

  1. Makeup Removal: Makeup remover is essential for effectively breaking down makeup, dirt, and oils. Start by gently removing your makeup using a suitable product; could be micellar water or cleansing form or oil cleanser. This step ensures thorough removal of makeup residue before proceeding to cleanse your skin.
    • Choose a makeup remover that suits your skin type.
    • Apply the makeup remover to a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your face, focusing on areas with makeup until it’s completely removed.
  2. Cleansing: Follow up the makeup removal with a thorough cleansing routine to further cleanse your skin and remove any remaining impurities.
  3. Spot/Acne/Blemish Treatment (Optional): If you have specific skin concerns such as spots, acne, or blemishes, you may choose to apply targeted treatments at this stage.
  4. Eye Cream (Optional): Eye cream can provide added moisture and address concerns such as aging, fine lines, puffiness, and darkness. Dab a small amount onto the eye area using your ring finger.
  5. Moisturizer: Moisturizing is crucial for keeping your skin hydrated and protected. Choose a moisturizer suitable for your skin type and apply it to your face and neck.
  6. Face Oil: If you prefer, you can finish your skincare routine with a nourishing face oil to lock in moisture and provide additional hydration.
